On Boxing Day, the 26th December, the African-Americas in diaspora, begun the celebration of Kwanzaa. The celebration is in honor of their heritage. During the duration of celebrations, gifts are exchanged among themselves as feasting, singing and dancing go on.

The Kwanza celebrations will go on from the 26th till the 1st of January, lasting 7 days. The name Kwanzaa is of Swahili origin, meaning “first fruits of the harvest”. The first time it was celebrated was 1966-1967, created by a Ron Karenga, who was an activist in the ‘60s.

The celebration of life is carried out in the spirit of accomplishment of the year and in supplication for the new year. The celebration is governed by seven principles namely; Umoja (unity), Kujichagulia (self-determination), Ujima (collective work and responsibility), Ujamaa (co-operative economics), Nia (purpose), Kuuma (creativity) and Imani (faith). There are also seven symbols associated with the celebration.

Seven candles are used, three red, one black and three green candles with the black in the middle, all sitting on a candle holder called Kinara. It is one of the symbols. Others are, gifts (Zawadi), crops (Mazao), the mat (Mekka), the unity cup (Kikombe Cha Umoja), Vibunzi (ear of corn) and lastly the seven candles (Mishumaa Saba). The black candle represents the people, red, their struggle and green, hope and promise for the future.

This celebration of Kwanzaa, is to reconnect African-American’s with their cultural heritage. Much of which was lot during the period they were slaves. The celebration is not holding only in America, but also in Canada and some diaspora countries.

They also will find time to discuss innovative ways to improve their communities. The celebration is concluded with the theme Faith. Faith in God and the belief in family, and their heritage.

In 2009, an estimated 30 million people celebrated Kwanzaa according to the African American Cultural Center.

Anok Yai is the first black girl to open Prada since Naomi Campbell 1997

The beautiful runway model from Sudan recently made history. Anok Yai is the first black girl to open the Prada runway in the last 20 years. She made history at the Milan Fashion Week with a major statement. The young model only hit limelight recently. She was discovered at last year’s homecoming party at Howard University.

The first black woman to open the runway for Prada was Naomi Campbell and none other has achieved such feat in the last 20 years. The 19 year old model could not hide her joy as she took to Instagram to express gratitude Miuccia Prada and her team.

She was evidently elated by the opportunity to open the show for Prada that she wrote, “Can’t believe I’m the first black woman to open for Prada since queen @iamnaomicampbell, forever grateful.”

Her rise to stardom could easily be termed a fairy tale as just a few weeks after her discovery at the Howard University homecoming she signed a contract Next Models. A month ago she broke into the news again for making her runway debut at the Prada Menswear Fall 2018 show.

Without doubt it is quite troubling that Prada has not deemed it fit to feature a woman of color to open a show in 20 years. For this reason the brand has been scrutinized for a lack of diversity in its shows and campaigns. This decision to cast a woman of color means a new day has come which will have ripple effects on other brands.

This was one of the most expected weddings of the year and Cohannes 2018 surpassed every expectation anyone had. From the style displayed by guests to the adornments of the couple. Indeed Cohannes 2018 was a tale of two countries coming together as one.

The German groom put on a full traditional Yoruba regalia to show how much he loves and appreciates his wife’s culture. He was not alone as his friends and family members did the same. It was such a beauty to behold as both individuals exchanged vows in the most emotional manner.

Coco is a famous fashion blogger who runs the fashion blog Coco Phemie. She is an entrepreneur, a very religious lady and most of all a hopeless romantic. Her passion for fashion has been her main driving force in building the Coco Phemie website.

Wedding of Mike Sterling and Eva Marcille

It was all smiles and laughter on Sunday, October 7, 2018 as Michael Sterling exchanged vows with RHOA’s Eva Marcille. The 33 year old Real Housewives of Atlanta star proclaimed her engagement to her boyfriend of over a year. “I said yes!!!” were the words she posted on her Instagram handle along with a selfie on the Christmas day of 2017.

Marcille narrated that the couple met and fell in love in Atlanta. On a lighter note she confirmed the saying that “A-town is a special place for newlyweds.” Her four year old daughter whom she had with her ex-boyfriend Kevin McCall played a major role at the wedding as her flower girl.

Late in November last year the couple had announced they were expecting a child together. A baby shower was held in March to welcome their baby in Atlanta. Everyone that should be there graced the occasion, it was truly a blissful time. Their baby boy was born on the 13th of April, 2018 weighing 7.3lbs.

The couple said their “I Dos” at a lush ceremony at the Atlanta’s Southern Exchange Ballroom. It was a truly remarkable occasion as the hall was filled from wall to wall with friends and families of the couple. Their both children were on duty to make the occasion glam. Among the guests at the occasion were stars from the Real Housewives of Atlanta.

The bride stunned guests with her storybook romance looks. Guests were dazed as she graced the isle with a beautiful Daughters of Nonyelum International Haute Couture gown. She accentuated this with a lengthy veil and a tiara. She wore an amazing strapless ball gown having a lace detail at the wedding reception.

(PHOTOS)Fashion on Display at The 2018 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA)

Fashion Goes on Display at The 2018 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) which is the sixth edition, was really a night for the stars both for the winners and nominees but what caught our eyes was the display of elegant an classy Fashion styles by the stars as they mad their fashion statement for the night.

The award which is really redefining the movie industry and narratives across Africa was filled with many surprises and surprised winners. It was a night of drama as each winner came with one act or the order while receiving his/her award, but  The most talked about part was the fashion and how it became the major distraction in the event as everyone was seen admiring their colleague’s outfit while hoping theirs would turn out to be the most talked about outfit for the amvca 2018 awards which took place at the EKO Hotels, Nigeria . we totally lost the ability to choose which was best of them all, this is because everybody made their way in with a style that is unique in its own way, so we prefer to leave  the rating to the African fashion police. But we’re amazed cos we know that most African stars prefer to patronize Black designers for custom designs. This goes a long way to show how much talent Black designer really have, their capabilities and why we should always support them. We’re indeed impressed.
