Prior to 2018 the award was gender dependent and so we either had a Mr. or Miss Globe. This year however the group president said it will be different ball game. After announcing Isan Elba as the Golden Globe Ambassador he made a statement on why the award received a makeover. He explained that it was in an effort to “represent a more inclusive role that was not only gender-neutral but also spoke to the HFPA’s commitment to philanthropy.”

Isan Elba made a statement via her Instagram account to show how ecstatic she was about being the Golden Globe Ambassador for 2019. Isan wrote, “I am so elated to announce that I am this year’s Golden Globe Ambassador! I am so honoured that the HFPA has chosen me and I look forward to representing the Globes while also shining a light on mental health among African-Americans and teenagers!”

She further went on to say “Mental health, specifically among African Americans and my peers in particular, is something I really want to be more vocal about. There’s this perceived stigma and I’ve seen friends struggle. We need to empower young people to not be afraid to ask for help.”

The nominations for the 2019 Golden Globe Awards will be announced on December 6 while the awards finale will be aired on NBC on January 6 by 8.00pm ET.
